Summaries let the user see overall results and trends.

Summaries are probably the most used report type because any information recorded on a document can be included on a Summaries report. For each report, one data source is accessed, such as sales or receivings. Summaries can be either item- or document-oriented reports.

As an example, a Sales Summary report could compare sales by department, or by style, for the year. A Purchasing report could summarize dollars on order by vendor.
